An algorithm is set of instructions or procedures for solving a problem. When applied to Geographic Information Systems (GIS) it involves spatial problems.

Geometric algorithms are often categorized under the topic of ComputationalGeometry?.

Because the Earth is basically shaped like a ball a number of essential algorithms important to GIS fall into the realm of SphericalTrigonometry.
