There are particular advantages to installing MapInfo across an enterprise (government department or private business), such as everyone using the same version of MapInfo and licenses managed centrally.

One common method for distributing a software application across an enterprise is via a NAL (Novell Application Launcher) object.

A NAL object that contains a .msi will run the .msi as System level of access.

System is a higher level of access than Administrator.

However, the MapInfo installation will only run on Administrator, not System. This prevents the NAL for MapInfo from running for a normal user, which reduces the usefulness of the NAL object.

Most software will install as either Administrator or System level of access. MapInfo is unusual in that it explicitly requires Administrator access.
